Dr. Dan Lee

Haemostasis Heroes 19

This week we speak to Dr Dan Lee MRCVS who co-founded, with his wife Ellie, the multi award-winning Manchester Cat Clinic. It opened in May 2023 with a staff of 9, and that has already grown to 18: Cat-Only Vets | Manchester Cat Clinic.

How long have you been using VETIGEL®?

“I started using it last summer after you came and demonstrated it in the practice.”

What do you like about VETIGEL®?

“It’s just so straightforward to use, no preparation necessary, and the Precision Accessories mean you can apply it just where it’s needed. It is also very effective, and you can be confident it will stop any bleeding very rapidly.”

What procedures do you mostly use VETIGEL®for?

“I use it in cases of gingival stomatitis which need a large number of extractions, sometimes the whole mouth. I like the way I can suture an entire arcade at once as VETIGEL® stops the bleeding after each extraction. The two most important benefits are that it saves time, and you can really see the reduction in blood loss. You also don’t get the post op ooze that you would otherwise get. So it benefits me as the procedure is shorter, and definitely benefits the cat as they have a shorter anaesthetic and lose less blood. The RVNs also like it as there is less pre discharge cleaning required due to the reduced post op ooze.”

You have clearly had a lot of experience with VETIGEL®; what other areas do you think it should be considered for?

“I keep it on hand for any significant bleeding cases that might benefit. Most feline trauma cases don’t involve much haemorrhage, but VETIGEL® gives me the peace of mind that it’s there if I need it.”

Would you recommend VETIGEL to other veterinarians?

“Definitely. It brings multiple benefits with the shorter procedure time and reduced peri and post op blood loss.”
