How long have you been using VETIGEL^®, and in how many procedures have you used it?

“You introduced me to it before Christmas, since when I’ve been using it a lot. Probably 4-5 times a week.”

What do you like about VETIGEL^®?

“It does what it says, stops bleeding quickly, they recover quickly. I use it routinely because it gives a better patient outcome.”

Tell me about some of the procedures you’ve found benefited from the use of VETIGEL^®?

“Enucleations, tooth extractions, and necrotic abscesses, even those that go into the bone. I recently had to amputate a duck’s penis, and used VETIGEL^® to stop the bleeding. I was worried it might start bleeding again when it woke up, but not a drop. I was presented with a hamster that not only needed an enucleation, but there was rotten tissue around the eye socket. I really feel that VETIGEL^® saved that hamster’s life. It’s also great in birds, I needed to do a digital amputation of a deformed toe on a Hyacinth Macaw, and VETIGEL^® made the procedure so much smoother and with reduced blood loss. It’s also great for beaks and nails, apply using a wet gauze and just hold in place for a couple of minutes.”

What else can you tell me about your use of VETIGEL^®?

“So simple to use. Gives you confidence. I wouldn’t do surgery without it being there. I visit zoos, and always take it with me. It’s safe to use.”

You have clearly had a lot of experience with VETIGEL^®; what other areas do you think it should be considered for?

“I’d be interested in using it in invertebrates that are injured, and also in the emergency box at my zoo clients.”

Would you recommend VETIGEL^® to other veterinarians?

“Absolutely, and I’m already doing that. I mention it whenever I lecture, such as a BVA regional meeting on rabbit abscesses and ear disease and at the recent British Chelonian Symposium on pollution and chelonians. I use VETIGEL^® when debriding areas of grossly contaminated or devitalised bone of the carapace in septicaemic cutaneous ulcerative disease (osteomyelitis and necrosis) cases. I also contribute to Vetlexicon, and have updated some entries to include VETIGEL^®.”
